Database Workbench 7.0.5 released

2026-07-22

There have been several updates since the initial version 7 release. Read this summary to get up-to-date.

After the initial version 7 release, the work on Database Workbench continues. Fixing reported issues, adding new features and improving existing ones.

AI Assistant

The AI Assistant has been improved. Instead of waiting for the full response, the AI Chat starts displayed the results as soon as they come in. And while the time it takes from the initial prompt to the final result is still the same, the possibility to start reading right away makes this process feel much faster. Don't like what you see? You can now cancel the response and start over.

When you attach a database, a message is displayed in the chat, but this scrolls out of view. The button now clearly indicates which database is attached.

Chat archiving has become automatic, never mistakingly forget to store a chat. A title is generated and the archive is updated for each new response.

The AI Assistant is able to retrieve trigger information, including source code. Optional filters were added to retrieve triggers and indices only for a specified set of tables, cutting down on AI-token use. We've put up an article about AI and automating audit-triggers, a follow up piece that requires the AI to retrieve existing triggers will be available soon.

Import and Export

We're expanding and improving on the many new data import and export features. For example, multiple tables can now be exported to a single XML file using generic XML instead of only the single table DATAPACKET XML available before. And when mapping the source file to table columns during import, these are now ordered alphabetically and filtering. Several small bugs in different import and export formats were fixed as well.

While the new LibreOffice ODS and Microsoft Excel imports worked, large files would use a lot of memory during import. A new method of importing these has been established and memory usage is neglible now.

Exporting database BLOBs from an SQL result now works for exporting large TEXT, which an optional text encoding.

Welcome Window and More

The Welcome Window now includes a list of articles, news, videos and other posts to make sure you're aware of the latest at our website. Feel free to like and reports LinkedIn articles and get the word out about your favorite database development tool.

Other general improvements have to do with specific dark-mode-to-Windows combinations, extra information when installing under Wine on Linux, or customizability of the application. You ask, we listen!
